If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest.
Exodus 22:25 (NIV)

Today, we're diving into a topic that might make some of us a bit uncomfortable: generosity in our money-driven world. But don't worry - we're in this together! We'll be exploring what it truly means to be generous, not just with our wallets but our hearts.
As you read through today's devotional and prayer, I encourage you to keep an open mind. You might be surprised at how God speaks to you about generosity in ways you've never considered before.
Short Devotional
In the Bible, we read about Joseph, a man who rose from slavery to become second-in-command in Egypt. Despite his power and wealth, Joseph showed incredible generosity to his brothers, who had once betrayed him. When famine struck, he didn't just give them food - he forgave their past wrongs and provided for their futures. Joseph's story challenges us to think: "How can we use our abundant or scarce resources to show God's love to others - even those who may have wronged us?"
In today's world, where every transaction seems to come with a price tag, how can we develop a heart of true generosity? It might mean lending without expecting repayment, giving our time freely, or using our skills to help others without charging. As we reflect on this, let's consider: What's one way we could be more generous this week that doesn't involve just money? Remember, true generosity often costs us something, but its rewards are priceless.

Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a heart full of gratitude and questions about generosity in our modern world. Lord, Your Word tells us, "If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest." Help me understand the depth of this command in today's money-driven society.
God, I confess that sometimes I struggle with true generosity. It's easy to get caught up in pursuing wealth and forget about the needs of others around me. Open my eyes to see the "needy" in my community - not just those lacking money, but those needing compassion, time, and support.
Father, give me the wisdom to use my resources in ways that honor You. Show me how to be generous without expecting anything in return. Help me break free from the mindset that every interaction must benefit me financially. Instead, plant in me a heart that seeks to bless others freely, just as You have blessed me.
Lord Jesus, You modeled perfect generosity by giving Your life for us. Empower me to follow Your example. When I'm tempted to hold back or to treat my finances like a business, remind me of Your sacrificial love. Help me see every opportunity to give or lend a chance to reflect Your character to the world.
Holy Spirit, guide me in practical ways to apply this ancient wisdom to my modern life. Show me creative ways to be generous that go beyond just money. Help me use my skills, time, and resources to lift up those in need around me. Give me discernment to know when and how to help without enabling harmful behaviors.
Lord, I pray for you to transform how I view and handle money. Let generosity become my default response, not an afterthought. Help me to hold loosely to material possessions and to find joy in giving. May my life be marked by a generosity that points others to Your abundant love and grace.
In Jesus' name, I pray.
Amen.
